Apple unveils M6 and M5 chip Mac mini and Mac Studio models
Apple has announced a new generation of desktop computers, including the Mac mini and Mac Studio, featuring the M6 and M5 series chips. The M6 chip, debuting in the Mac mini, is the company’s first processor built on a 2-nanometer process. It introduces a new CPU architecture that includes super-cores, performance cores, and efficiency cores, a configuration previously reserved for higher-end models.
The new hardware is heavily optimized for on-device artificial intelligence. The Mac mini with M6 or M5 Pro chips is designed to run local AI models and agent-based tasks, while the Mac Studio featuring the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips offers massive memory capacities of up to 512GB of unified memory. This allows professional users to run large language models (LLMs) locally without relying on the cloud.
Alongside the hardware, Apple is preparing the release of macOS 27 Golden Gate, which is expected to launch in mid-September 2026. This operating system marks a significant transition, as it is anticipated to be the final version to support Intel-based Macs, moving the ecosystem exclusively toward Apple Silicon. The new Mac models are scheduled to begin shipping on September 22, 2026.
