Apple, Huawei, and Xiaomi to compete in foldable smartphone market

The global technology market is set for a significant shift in the premium smartphone segment as Apple, Huawei, and Xiaomi prepare to launch competing foldable devices within the same commercial window this September.

Xiaomi is reportedly changing its commercial strategy by integrating its foldable technology into its flagship line under the name Xiaomi 18 Fold. This device is expected to feature the proprietary 3-nanometer Xring 03 processor, which utilizes advanced three-dimensional packaging and supports LPDDR6 ultra-fast memory.

The competition extends beyond physical design to a lithographic war among semiconductor designers. Manufacturers are racing to set new standards for battery life and raw processing power to support integrated artificial intelligence, while also striving to improve the structural durability of hinges and organic flexible panels to meet consumer demand for thinner, lighter devices with imperceptible folds.
