Apple increases PC market share despite global shipment decline

Global PC shipments fell 21% year-over-year in the third quarter, dropping to 57 million units according to Counterpoint Research. This downturn is attributed to rising costs for memory and other components driven by AI-related demand, which has pushed device prices higher and caused consumers to delay replacements.

Despite the market contraction, Apple increased its market share from 8.7% to 9.8%, securing fourth place among vendors. While Apple's Mac shipments fell 11% to 5.6 million units, analysts credit the MacBook Neo with cushioning the decline. The device, which features the A18 Pro chip, saw demand exceed expectations, leading to reported increases in production targets.

Other major vendors saw significant declines: Lenovo remains the market leader with a 26.3% share despite a 23% drop in shipments. HP and Dell saw shipments fall by 31% and 25%, respectively. ASUS recorded the smallest decline among the top five vendors, with shipments falling 7% to a 9.2% market share.
