Apple introduces iPhone Handoff to share one number across two devices

Apple is introducing a new feature called iPhone Handoff with the launch of iOS 27, allowing users to share a single phone number across two different iPhones. The feature is designed to facilitate seamless switching between devices, such as a primary phone and a secondary work device, while maintaining access to the same calls, messages, and mobile data.

Implementation of the service is currently tied to specific carriers. In the United States, T-Mobile is the first confirmed carrier to support the feature, with an expected monthly cost of approximately $5. In Germany, Deutsche Telekom will offer the service as part of its MultiSIM offering. Other carriers, including Verizon in the US and EE in the UK, are expected to support the technology later this year.

To use iPhone Handoff, devices must utilize eSIM technology, be signed into the same Apple Account, and have Messages in iCloud enabled. The feature will be compatible with iPhone 11 or later and iPhone SE (2nd Gen) or later. Setup requires both devices to be connected to Wi-Fi and placed in close proximity.
