Apple iPhone sales jump 31% while Xiaomi grows 26% in Central America Q1 2026

Omdia reports that the Latin American smartphone market grew 3% year‑over‑year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 34.8 million units. Apple saw a 31% increase in iPhone shipments, driven by an 80% surge in Mexico and strong demand for the iPhone 17 series, giving the company a 5% market share in the region.

Samsung remains the market leader with a 37% share, while Xiaomi posted a sixth straight quarter of growth, shipping 6.0 million units (17% share) across LATAM and registering a 26% year‑over‑year rise in Central America. The boost came from the new Xiaomi 17 line, a Leica partnership, and expanded distribution in Guatemala and Costa Rica. Honor grew 30% to a 10% share and Motorola fell 5% to a 14% share. Premium‑priced phones (above US$500) stayed resilient, whereas entry‑level segments faced tighter affordability.
