Qualcomm forecasts weak profit as Apple component revenue set to fall sharply

Qualcomm reported third‑quarter revenue of $9.9 billion, down about 4% year‑over‑year, and net profit of $2.0 billion, a 25% decline. Handset‑chip sales fell 20% to $5.1 billion. The company forecast fourth‑quarter revenue of $9.7‑$10.5 billion and adjusted earnings of $2.05‑$2.25 per share, both below Wall Street expectations. It warned that revenue from Apple products will decline faster, expecting its share of components in the next iPhone to drop well below the earlier 20% estimate, and announced a company‑wide price increase starting September 1, 2026. While its automotive and IoT divisions grew strongly – automotive chip sales rose 61% and IoT revenue 9% – the overall business faces pressure from soaring memory‑chip costs.

Apple is expected to post its strongest June‑quarter revenue in five years, around $108.6‑$109 billion, a 15.5% increase year‑over‑year, driven by a 3% rise in iPhone shipments that lifted its global market share to roughly 20%. The company kept iPhone prices unchanged but raised prices for iPads and MacBooks to offset higher component costs.

Both companies cite memory‑chip shortages and higher input costs as the main headwinds, while Qualcomm aims to expand non‑handset revenue through data‑center and AI‑related chips.
