Apple launches Emergency SOS Live Video feature in Brazil

Apple and RapidSOS have launched the ‘Emergency SOS Live Video’ feature in Brazil, allowing iPhone users to share live video feeds with emergency dispatchers during a 190 call. This technology, which was previously available in the United States, enables emergency telecommunicators to request visual information if they determine it will assist in understanding a situation.

When a request is sent, the user receives a prompt on their device and can share their camera with a single tap, maintaining the ability to stop the transmission at any time. The video stream is encrypted by default. The feature is compatible with iPhone 14 models or later and operates via standard cellular data networks.

Implementation depends on individual emergency communication centers (ECCs) choosing to integrate the technology through the RapidSOS UNITE platform. Consequently, availability may vary by city and state as local military police operations centers (Cecopom) adopt the system. This feature is distinct from satellite-based SOS services, which remain unavailable in Brazil due to pending regulatory agreements with Anatel.
