Apple prepares M6 silicon updates and OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro

Apple is preparing a series of hardware updates centered on its new M6 silicon architecture. The Mac mini featuring the M6 chip, built on a 2-nanometer process, was recently released and is noted for significant performance gains in AI tasks compared to previous generations.

Regarding the MacBook Pro lineup, reports suggest a potential launch of new 14-inch and 16-inch models as early as October or November. These high-end models may feature OLED displays and touchscreen capabilities, marking a significant departure from Apple’s traditional laptop interface. These premium versions are expected to utilize M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, potentially under a new branding such as “MacBook Ultra,” and may include a Dynamic Island-style cutout instead of the current notch.

In contrast, the standard MacBook Pro lineup is expected to transition to the M6 chip family later, with M7 Pro and M7 Max variants anticipated in 2027. The upcoming OLED touchscreen models are positioned as a premium tier above the standard professional models.
