According to roadmaps from research firm Omdia, Apple has halted development on a large-format foldable device—described as a hybrid between an iPad and a MacBook—which was expected to feature a display between 16.1 and 18 inches. Additionally, plans for a mid-sized OLED MacBook, ranging from 14.4 to 16.1 inches, have been scrapped. This cancellation is intended to maintain clear distinctions between the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines, leaving the 14.3-inch to 16.3-inch OLED range primarily to the MacBook Pro series.

Despite these cancellations, Apple continues to pursue OLED for other segments. A new 13.8-inch intermediate OLED MacBook is anticipated for late 2028 or early 2029, potentially featuring an LTPO+ backplane, an under-panel camera to eliminate the display notch, and a touchscreen interface. To manage costs, the company is projected to continue selling mini-LED MacBook Pro models until at least 2028.
