Apple Music unveils new brand identity shaped by sound waves
Apple Music has launched a major rebranding, replacing its long-standing red aesthetic with a black-and-white visual identity. The redesign, centered on the concept “Made by Sound,” features a new logo, updated typography, and a refreshed audio signature.
In collaboration with British music producer Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics, the creative team used physical vibrations rather than purely digital tools to craft the visuals. A transducer was used to play musical frequencies into a shallow bath of mineral oil, creating ripples and light refractions. These physical movements were captured on camera to form the basis of the new musical-note icon and animated branding.
The new wordmark utilizes a customized, bolder version of the SF Pro typeface in all lowercase letters. This design language aligns with Apple’s “Liquid Glass” aesthetic, emphasizing translucency and fluid movement. The update has begun appearing in software betas for iOS and macOS and is being rolled out across the service’s original content and events.
