Apple prepares first touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED display

Apple is reportedly preparing a major redesign of the MacBook Pro, which may include the company’s first touchscreen functionality. Evidence from the macOS 27.2 beta suggests the operating system is being optimized for touch, featuring new long-press animations for Dock icons similar to iPadOS.

Key hardware upgrades are expected to include OLED displays, replacing current mini-LED technology, and the introduction of the ‘Dynamic Island’ feature previously seen on iPhones. The new models, potentially branded as ‘MacBook Ultra,’ are expected to be significantly lighter and thinner due to a redesigned internal structure and miniaturized components.

While some reports suggest the new laptops will utilize M6 chips, others indicate Apple may focus on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for this iteration to prioritize AI performance. The release of these touchscreen models is anticipated as early as October or November 2026. Additionally, Apple may introduce an OLED-equipped iPad mini and updates to the HomePod ecosystem during upcoming events.
