Apple product cycle to bolster Vietnam manufacturing base
Apple’s upcoming product cycle is expected to provide significant opportunities for Vietnam’s industrial foundation. Beyond iPhone production, Vietnam has become a critical manufacturing hub for various Apple devices, including approximately 20% of iPad production and a substantial portion of wearable device assembly.
Suppliers such as Luxshare, GoerTek, and Foxconn are expanding production for AirPods, Apple Watch, MacBook, and Mac mini within the country. This growth is driving increased demand for technical roles in manufacturing, quality control, automation, and logistics. Large-scale investments, such as those by Luxshare in Bac Ninh and Nghe An, indicate a shift from basic assembly toward more complex manufacturing processes.
While the cycle is expected to boost factory capacity, exports, and employment, experts note that the ultimate impact depends on domestic value addition. Currently, electronic assembly maintains relatively thin local profit margins, as a significant portion of components and machinery is still imported.
