Apple manufacturing expansion in Vietnam

Overview

Apple is expanding its manufacturing footprint and workforce development in Vietnam. The company has launched its first Apple Education Center in Hanoi in partnership with the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Funded by a $50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund, the center provides training in technical fields such as robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing, alongside professional development and worker rights education.

This educational initiative coincides with a broader shift in Vietnam’s industrial role. The country has become a critical hub for various Apple devices, including a significant portion of iPad and wearable assembly. Major suppliers like Luxshare, Goertek, and Foxconn are increasing production for products such as AirPods, Apple Watches, and MacBooks. While these investments drive demand for technical and logistics roles, experts suggest that long-term economic impact depends on increasing domestic value addition to offset the current reliance on imported components.
