Apple to debut first touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED displays

Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models during the ‘Pro and Tell’ event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The new 14-inch and 16-inch laptops will feature OLED displays, replacing the existing Mini-LED technology, and will incorporate a Dynamic Island instead of the traditional notch. These models are expected to be lighter and powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

Due to the higher cost of OLED panels, the new MacBook Pros may start up to $500 higher than current versions. The transition to OLED is also expected to impact the broader display market; Counterpoint Research predicts that global Mini-LED laptop panel shipments could decline by 75% by 2027 as manufacturers shift toward OLED technology.

In addition to the MacBook Pro, reports suggest a potential multi-day announcement rollout. This may include a new iPad mini featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display and an A20 Pro chip, as well as updates to the iMac. While Apple is testing OLED prototypes for the MacBook Air and iMac, those models are expected to retain LCD technology for the immediate future.
