Stryker completes first hip surgery using Apple Vision Pro

Medical technology company Stryker has completed the first hip arthroscopy procedure using the Apple Vision Pro headset. The surgery was performed at Duke Health by orthopedic surgeon Chad Mather III using the SportSuite Vision application.

SportSuite Vision, which received FDA De Novo authorization on July 17, is the first application authorized by the FDA for intraoperative use with the Apple Vision Pro. The software integrates critical digital content—including arthroscopic video, CT imaging, HipCheck, and HipMap—directly into the surgeon’s field of view.

By utilizing spatial computing, the system allows surgeons to customize the placement of clinical information within their sterile field. This approach aims to reduce the need to look away at multiple traditional monitors, potentially creating a more ergonomic and streamlined workflow in the operating room.
