Apple Vision Pro finds medical success despite consumer niche
While the Apple Vision Pro has struggled to gain traction in the consumer market due to its high price of nearly 4,000 euros, it is finding significant success in the medical field. The headset is increasingly being used in operating rooms to assist surgeons.
In Germany, researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU) and the University Hospital Leipzig developed surgical navigation software that projects high-resolution 3D MRI and CT data directly into a surgeon's field of vision. This collaboration led to an invitation from Apple CEO Tim Cook to integrate their software with the Vision Pro at Apple's headquarters.
The growing importance of this technology was highlighted at the First European Spatial Computing Healthcare Summit in Leipzig, where experts gathered to discuss the future of spatial computing in medical applications.
