Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 face skin irritation and repairability concerns
New Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 models are facing scrutiny regarding both user health and device repairability.
Users have reported skin irritation, including redness and burning sensations, specifically in the area under the sensors. While the exact cause is unconfirmed, some speculate that the new biometric sensors, which measure heart rate every five seconds, may contribute to the issue. Apple has advised users to ensure the device and band are clean and dry, noting that irritation can also stem from sweat, soap, or improper fit.
Simultaneously, teardowns by iFixit have revealed low repairability scores for both models. Both the Series 12 and Ultra 4 received a 4 out of 10 rating. The Series 12 shows minor improvements, such as a pull tab for easier battery removal and a new press connector, but still requires removing the display to access internal components. The Ultra 4 shows no significant progress in repairability, maintaining a design that relies heavily on adhesives for waterproofing, making battery replacement difficult and risky.
