Aptera solar vehicle achieves up to 76 km range in independent tests

Independent testing by TÜV Rheinland has verified that the Aptera Atlas 1, a solar-powered three-wheeler from the American startup Aptera Motors, can generate significant energy from sunlight. During tests conducted in Carlsbad, California, the vehicle produced between 4.23 and 4.75 kWh of usable energy over three consecutive days.

Depending on the positioning of the vehicle and its solar panels, the energy generated translated to a solar-only driving range of approximately 68 to 76 kilometers. The highest yield was achieved when the vehicle's rear flap was raised and angled toward the sun. These results exceeded the company's initial daily target of 4 kWh.

To ensure accuracy, TÜV Rheinland technicians used calibrated equipment to measure current, voltage, and power directly at the battery pack, accounting for losses in charging electronics. The vehicle is designed with a highly efficient aerodynamic shape and curved solar surfaces to maximize light collection throughout the day.
