Aptos report: Retailers see high ROI from PoS modernisation

A new study by Coresight Research, released by Aptos, indicates that 85% of retailers who modernized their Point of Sale (PoS) systems found the investment met or exceeded their return on investment expectations.

Based on a survey of 150 global retail decision-makers, the report highlights that modern, cloud-native PoS platforms—utilizing microservices and API-driven integration—help retailers adapt to changing consumer expectations. Retailers using these systems reported an average 1.2 percentage point increase in in-store conversion rates and a 4.3% increase in average transaction value.

For a hypothetical retailer with $1 billion in annual revenue and 750 stores, the study modeled an estimated $4.4 million in annual cost savings and $39.6 million in annual revenue uplift. Despite these benefits, the report notes that many retailers have not yet fully transitioned; 22% still operate hybrid or on-premises environments, while 36% use cloud-hosted systems that lack the full flexibility of cloud-native platforms.
