Aquaculture training initiatives launched in Peru and Argentina

Aquaculture producers in Peru and Argentina are receiving specialized training to improve sanitary standards and biosecurity.

In Sechura, Peru, the National Authority for Fisheries and Aquaculture Health and Food Safety (Sanipes) trained 45 scallop farmers in Parachique. The program focuses on hygiene, traceability, and preventive measures to protect crops against climate variability and the El Niño phenomenon. This initiative aims to safeguard the quality of products destined for both domestic and international markets, which generated over US$ 64.7 million in exports between January and July 2026.

In Puerto Madryn, Argentina, the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) conducted training regarding epidemiological surveillance and regulatory frameworks for Patagonian salmonids. The session addressed Resolution No. 793/2026, which will mandate minimum biosecurity conditions and good aquaculture practices for commercial fish production starting March 1, 2027. Requirements under the new regulation include registration in the National Sanitary Registry of Agricultural Producers (RENSPA) and the employment of accredited aquaculture technicians.
