Aquaculture training and biosecurity in Peru
Overview
In Sechura, Piura, aquaculture training initiatives have been implemented to strengthen the local scallop production sector. Programs supported by CITE Pesquero Piura and FOSPIBAY have provided technical training to over 60 workers on good aquaculture practices. Additionally, the ‘Abanico de Oportunidades’ project by FOSPIBAY aims to foster female entrepreneurship by training 300 women in the construction and maintenance of cultivation systems.
Efforts have expanded to include specialized training by the National Authority for Fisheries and Aquaculture Health and Food Safety (Sanipes) for 45 scallop farmers in Parachique. This training focuses on hygiene, traceability, and preventive measures to protect crops against climate variability and the El Niño phenomenon, aiming to safeguard product quality for domestic and international markets.
