Aquário unveils Brazil's first TV 3.0 hybrid broadcast system

Aquário released the first DTV Plus "TV 3.0" converter kit in Brazil, combining traditional UHF broadcast with internet connectivity. The compact set‑top box runs Android 14 with a hybrid Astro TV Next layer, and is paired with a thin mouse‑pad‑style MIMO antenna that supports dual vertical and horizontal signals. The system delivers up to 35 MB/s over a 6 MHz channel, enabling 4K video through a base HD layer plus an enhancement layer, while keeping latency only 2–3 seconds above conventional over‑the‑air TV.

The beta rollout is limited to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília and still shows interface glitches, color‑calibration issues and limited audio channels. Separately, 4K resolution provides four times the pixel count of Full HD, improving detail for entertainment, gaming and professional workflows such as design, photography and video editing.

Aquário expects the technology to become native in new televisions next year, potentially expanding free‑to‑air high‑quality broadcasting without relying on costly cable or broadband connections.
