Brazil World Cup broadcast rights & TV ratings
Overview
Brazil’s 2026 World Cup generated unprecedented viewership. CazéTV set a new YouTube record with 24 million concurrent devices during the France‑Spain semifinal and reached over 100 million devices across the tournament. SBT reported more than 104 million viewers for its coverage of all 32 matches, while Globo’s combined ecosystem (TV Globo, SporTV, GE TV on Globoplay) claimed a total reach of 142.7 million people, despite a 7 million‑viewer dip compared with 2022, which the broadcasters linked to fewer open‑TV games.
In parallel, UFPE’s Centre of Informatics ran an AI prediction experiment titled “Bolão das IAs”. One hundred‑twenty‑four models generated 5,797 forecasts for the 104 matches; a human participant, Gabriel, outperformed most AIs, finishing ahead of 121 models. The AI consensus correctly anticipated Brazil’s round‑of‑16 exit and the Spain‑Argentina final result, though only 12 models nailed more than 20 exact scores.
Globo and CazéTV have now locked down broadcast rights for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil: Globo will air 56 matches on open TV and all 64 on SporTV, while CazéTV will stream the tournament exclusively on YouTube, mirroring the 2026 men’s‑World‑Cup rights split and underscoring the shift toward digital platforms.
The Brazilian IPTV market continues its rapid expansion, driven by rising broadband penetration and a move toward paid services that promise stable, high‑quality streams, with industry forecasts projecting steady growth through 2026.
