Ağrı launches school sports centres and free swimming lessons for youth

The Ağrı provincial governor, together with the Youth and Sports Directorate and the Provincial Education Directorate, has started the AĞAH Sports Schools project. The initiative will convert schoolyards and indoor spaces across the province into modern sports facilities offering basketball, volleyball, futsal, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, karate, taekwondo and table tennis. After pilot schools are upgraded, the model will be expanded to other schools, aiming to increase children's access to sport, identify talent early and promote healthy lifestyles.

In a related effort, Youth and Sports Provincial Director Ahmet Çelebi visited swimming facilities where the "Yüzme Bilmeyen Kalmasın" (No One Left Without Swimming) programme provides free swimming lessons for children and teenagers. He said, “Çocuklarımızı ve gençlerimizi suyla, sporla ve özgüvenle buluşturuyoruz… Bu şehirde yüzme bilmeyen kalmasın.” The programme emphasizes hygiene and safety, and seeks to develop confidence, discipline and physical development among participants.

Both projects are funded and coordinated by Turkey’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and aim to broaden sport participation for Ağrı’s youth.
