ARA Libertad arrives in Rio de Janeiro for final international stop

The Argentine Navy training ship ARA Libertad has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking its ninth and final international port call of its 54th Instruction Cruise. The vessel, known as the ‘Ambassador of the Seas’, is beginning the final stage of an extensive journey that has covered approximately 16,000 nautical miles.

Under the command of Captain Jorge Gabriel Cáceres, the ship carries 45 midshipmen undergoing professional training, along with 26 officers and approximately 200 petty officers. The mission has combined naval instruction with diplomatic and protocol activities across various international destinations.

The cruise, which began on April 11 from the Buenos Aires Naval Shipyard, included stops in Fortaleza, Brazil; several United States ports including New Orleans, Norfolk, Baltimore, New York, and Boston; and Caribbean locations such as Kingston, Jamaica, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Following its stay in Rio de Janeiro until September 10, the ship is scheduled to enter the La Plata estuary around September 17-18, with a final docking in Buenos Aires planned for September 19.
