ARA Libertad returns to Buenos Aires after 54th Instruction Cruise
The ARA Libertad, the flagship of the Argentine Navy, returned to the Naval Shipyard in Buenos Aires on Saturday, marking the successful completion of its 54th Instruction Cruise. The mission, which began on April 11, spanned 161 days and covered approximately 16,000 nautical miles.
Commanded by Captain Jorge Gabriel Cáceres, the vessel visited nine international ports, including stops in Brazil (Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro), the United States (New Orleans, Norfolk, Baltimore, New York, and Boston), and Jamaica (Kingston and San Juan). During its final foreign stop in Rio de Janeiro, the crew engaged in professional training at the Brazilian Naval School and hosted advisors from the Coordinator of the South Atlantic Maritime Area (CAMAS) to strengthen regional strategic dialogue between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay.
The return was marked by emotional reunions for the 256 crew members. Several sailors, including Petty Officer José María Báez and Petty Officer Sando Flores, celebrated the birth of their first children during the voyage, having witnessed the births via video calls or photographs while at sea.
