Arab League Bids Farewell to Secretary General Ahmed Abu al-Ghait and Assistant Hossam Zaki

The Arab League held a farewell ceremony for Secretary General Ahmed Abu al‑Ghait, who led the organization from 2016, and Assistant Secretary General Hossam Zaki, who served for ten years. The event was attended by senior officials of the League, including the head of the Media and Communication sector, who praised both officials for their dedication, diplomatic experience and efforts to strengthen the Arab League’s role amid regional crises and the COVID‑19 pandemic.

During his speech, Ambassador Zaki reflected on “three thousand six hundred and fifty days of service” and highlighted achievements such as the completion of a new annex to the League’s headquarters, the opening of the Arab League Museum, and scholarly works documenting Arab diplomatic history. The outgoing leaders were thanked for safeguarding the institution and were wished continued health, while the Secretariat affirmed its commitment to continue its work under the newly appointed Secretary General Nebil Fahmi.
