Arab League calls for international intervention to protect Palestinians

At the conclusion of its 166th ordinary session held in Tunisia, the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers called for immediate international intervention to protect the Palestinian people from Israeli aggression and settler terrorism. The Council urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and signatories of the Fourth Geneva Convention to act in accordance with international law.

Key resolutions include support for an Arab-Islamic plan for the recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The Council welcomed the prospect of an international conference in Cairo to facilitate this process and called for the activation of a transparent financial safety net for Palestine. This proposal will be studied by member states following a submission by the State of Palestine.

The Council also expressed support for Egypt and Qatar’s mediation efforts to stop the conflict. It emphasized the need for the Palestinian Authority to assume full governance responsibilities in Gaza within the framework of the political and geographical unity of the 1967 territories. Furthermore, the ministers condemned Israeli economic measures, such as the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, and reaffirmed the Arab Peace Initiative, linking normalization to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
