Arab League chief Nabiel Fahmi meets UN committee head on Palestinian rights

Arab League Secretary‑General Nabiel Fahmi received the head of the UN Committee on the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People at the League's headquarters. The meeting followed an international conference in Cairo that focused on the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.

Both officials stressed the need to continue international coordination to protect Palestinian rights, especially the right to self‑determination within the 1967 borders. They condemned ongoing Israeli settlement activity and warned against actions that could undermine Palestinian presence in Jerusalem. The discussion also highlighted concerns about some countries, including Colombia, planning to relocate their embassies to Jerusalem, which they said violates UN Security Council resolutions.

Fahmi reiterated the Arab League's commitment to work with the UN committee and other regional partners to broaden diplomatic recognition of a Palestinian state and to counter measures that threaten the city's Arab identity.
