Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy meets Lebanese President Joseph Aoun

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the Baabda Palace to discuss regional instability and the risks of expanding conflicts. Fahmy emphasized that Lebanon is a top priority for the Arab League, pledging intensified political, diplomatic, economic, and social support for the Lebanese state and its institutions.

During the meeting, Fahmy expressed support for Lebanon’s negotiations with Israel and the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation of Lebanese lands. He also announced plans to visit southern Lebanon to assess the situation following repeated Israeli attacks. Additionally, the Secretary-General indicated efforts to ensure the continued presence of UNIFIL forces in the south under the United Nations umbrella.

President Joseph Aoun stated that while there is no disagreement in Lebanon regarding the objectives of negotiations with Israel—such as Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories, the release of prisoners, and the return of displaced persons—there is disagreement regarding the methods to achieve them. Aoun noted that Israel has not adhered to the framework agreement, leaving southern Lebanon vulnerable to daily violations.
