Arab League supports UN call for international investigators in Gaza

The Arab League has welcomed a call by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, to allow international investigators access to all parts of the Gaza Strip. The objective is to facilitate the collection and preservation of evidence following the ongoing recovery of hundreds of bodies and human remains from the rubble of destroyed buildings.

The Arab League stated that this call is critically timed given the discovery of victims, including women, children, and entire families, which necessitates documentation and investigation under international law. The League highlighted serious concerns regarding potential grave violations, including war crimes.

To ensure justice, the Arab League emphasized the necessity of safe and unrestricted access for investigators to identify victims, preserve biological samples, and document burial sites. They also called on the international community to provide necessary support and equipment to Palestinian authorities to continue search and recovery operations while respecting the dignity of the deceased.
