Arab League urges stronger Arab coordination and humanitarian aid for Sudan’s Al Obeid

Arab League Secretary‑General Nabil Fahmy met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty at the League’s headquarters, stressing the need for greater cohesion, modernised mechanisms and regular meetings to boost joint Arab action among member states.

Fahmy also warned that more than 500,000 civilians in Sudan’s Al Obeid are under siege, facing drone attacks on markets, schools, hospitals and water‑electricity infrastructure. He called for intensified international assistance, an inclusive Sudanese‑led political dialogue, and urged regional partners to prevent a wider humanitarian catastrophe. The appeal follows a UN Human Rights Council resolution for an urgent investigation and an IOM alert of severe funding shortfalls for shelter aid.
