Arab League warns Israeli strikes in Lebanon threaten peace efforts

The Arab League has issued a warning regarding Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon, describing recent strikes as a ‘dangerous escalation’ that threatens Lebanese sovereignty and undermines efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.

Spokesperson Jamal Rushdi stated that Israel’s policies appear intended to prolong hostilities and obstruct negotiations. The League called for the international community, specifically the United States, to intervene to prevent the situation from expanding into a wider conflict. They further urged that Israel be compelled to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

Recent airstrikes in the towns of Deir ez-Zahrani and Ansar reportedly killed 11 people, including children, and injured 19 others. While Hezbollah condemned the strikes as violations of a ceasefire, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office acknowledged civilian deaths but claimed Hezbollah places civilians in combat zones. The Lebanese government reports that over 1 million people have been displaced due to the ongoing military operations.
