Arab League warns of Israeli escalation in Al-Aqsa Mosque and West Bank
The General Secretariat of the Arab League has issued a strong condemnation regarding ongoing Israeli escalations in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. The organization highlighted increased military measures, closures, and restrictions on Palestinian movement, particularly during Jewish holidays.
A primary concern raised is the potential change to the historical and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Arab League noted reports from the Jerusalem police commander regarding trials to introduce Jewish prayer books (Siddur) into the mosque, warning that allowing such religious tools could establish new rituals and alter the site's status.
Additionally, the statement denounced the tightening of military controls in the West Bank, including the closure of roads, gates, and checkpoints that obstruct citizens from reaching workplaces and places of worship. The Arab League called upon the international community and the UN Security Council to hold Israel accountable and ensure the protection of Palestinian rights and freedom of worship.
