Arada submits planning applications for Thameside West regeneration
Arada has submitted planning applications to the London Borough of Newham for the first phase of Thameside West, a major regeneration project in East London’s Royal Docks. The development has a projected Gross Development Value of AED 12 billion and has the potential to deliver at least 5,000 homes on the 47-acre site.
The initial stage involves the construction of nearly 1,500 homes across six buildings. Notably, the first two buildings are designated as 100% social rent housing, featuring three and four-bedroom family homes. The masterplan follows a landscape-led approach, incorporating a new seven-acre park, approximately 1,000 new trees, and a kilometer of waterfront to improve connectivity between the Thames and the Royal Docks.
In conjunction with the residential development, plans for a new Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station, potentially named Thames Wharf, are progressing. Transport for London (TfL) has completed the feasibility design stage. While a significant funding gap remains for the station, TfL is exploring external funding sources to support its delivery, which could coincide with the arrival of the first residents. Construction on the site is expected to begin in early 2028.
