Arada submits planning for Thameside West London development

Emirati developer Arada has submitted planning applications to the London Borough of Newham for the first phase of the Thameside West regeneration project in East London’s Royal Docks. The massive development, valued at approximately AED 12 billion (£2.5 billion), aims to deliver at least 5,000 new homes across more than two million square feet.

The initial phase, designed by US architect Gensler, involves six buildings that will provide nearly 1,500 homes. Notably, the first two buildings are designated entirely for social-rent housing, including units designed for families. The masterplan includes a seven-acre waterfront park featuring approximately 1,000 trees, alongside cafes, restaurants, and a one-kilometre active waterfront walking route.

Developed in partnership with the Greater London Authority’s Royal Docks Team, the project also includes plans for a new Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station, which Arada is designing in coordination with Transport for London. The project follows Arada’s acquisition of an 80% stake in the development from Keystone last November.
