Aragón implements new prevention protocols for African Swine Fever
The Government of Aragón has established a new working group and action protocol to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF). While the region remains free of the disease, authorities are taking preemptive measures due to the epidemiological situation in neighboring Catalonia. The new protocol aims to coordinate communication channels and interventions among various agencies. Plans include a technical visit to Catalonia in late September and a regional simulation exercise in October to test response capabilities.
In related scientific developments, an international study has investigated oral transmission routes of the ASF virus. The research compared exposure to contaminated commercial feed versus homogenized infected organs. Results indicated that a single exposure to contaminated feed did not produce detectable systemic infection, whereas ingestion of infected organ homogenate resulted in acute infection and 100% mortality. These findings are intended to assist in risk assessment and the development of more effective biosecurity measures.
