Aragua highway to Choroní closed after multiple landslides

The Maracay-Choroní highway in Aragua state is completely closed to vehicular traffic following several landslides caused by intense rainfall. The landslides occurred on Saturday, October 10, specifically affecting kilometers 9, 10, and 25 of the route.

Authorities have deployed heavy machinery, including backhoes, and crews equipped with chainsaws to remove rocks, fallen trees, and sediment blocking the road. Civil Protection officials in Aragua reported that teams were deployed to rescue individuals trapped by the debris and move them to safe areas.

While the road was previously scheduled for rehabilitation work starting Tuesday, the emergency landslides have forced an indefinite closure. Officials continue to monitor vulnerable sectors in the region for further risks related to the ongoing rainy period.
