Aragua River flooding triggers search for missing couple in Venezuela

Authorities in Venezuela are conducting search and rescue operations for a couple after their vehicle was swept away by the Aragua River during heavy rains. The vehicle, belonging to owners of a local service station in La Victoria, was located empty in the early hours of Sunday, August 23. Rescue teams are currently searching downstream to locate the missing individuals.

In response to the severe weather, public service crews have been deployed to clear landslides and sediment obstructing major routes, including the road connecting La Colonia Tovar to La Victoria and the Cedral–El Jarillo stretch. While the road to La Colonia Tovar has been cleared, officials advise drivers to exercise extreme caution due to ongoing risks from recent precipitation and potential flooding in the José Félix Ribas municipality.
