Santa Catarina braces for hotter, wetter months as El Niño intensifies

The 244th Santa Catarina Climate Forum warned that the next three months will see temperatures above the climatological average and a marked increase in rainfall, with July already exceeding the seasonal norm. The forecast, presented with the state Civil Defense, links the trend to the intensifying El Niño phenomenon.

Temperatures are expected to range from 23 °C to 28 °C across most of the state, reaching up to 30 °C along the coast during the first weekend of August. A weak cold front later in the month may bring additional cloudiness and a modest temperature dip. The heightened moisture and warmth raise the risk of severe weather, including thunderstorms, hail, strong winds, flash floods and landslides, although no immediate severe events are forecast.
