Minnie Merriman, 9, dies after being found injured at Arbroath industrial estate; suspect charged

Nine‑year‑old Minnie Merriman, a resident of West Yorkshire, was discovered seriously injured on the Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath, Angus, shortly after midnight on 3 August 2026. She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died.

Police Scotland arrested a 35‑year‑old white British man, identified as Christopher Rice, who was known to the girl. He has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court (later reported as Dundee Sheriff Court). The investigation remains ongoing, with police stating they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

Family members released a statement describing Minnie as "beloved, absolutely incredible, beautiful and brave" and asked for privacy. A police cordon, forensic tent and floral tributes were placed at the scene, and specialist officers continue to support the family.
