Archaeological discoveries reported in Romania
Significant archaeological findings have been reported in Romania. Along the route of the future Caransebeș–Lugoj railway, preventive research conducted by the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy has identified 23 sites. The most notable discovery is at Sacu, where a Bronze Age cremation necropolis attributed to the Balta Sărată culture was found, containing approximately 520 archaeological complexes and over 500 prehistoric graves.
Additionally, Sarmizegetusa Regia, the ancient capital of the Dacians, held an open doors day to allow visitors to explore the site with archaeologists. The site, located at Grădiștea de Munte, contains remains of civil, military, and cult constructions that provide evidence of Dacian royalty and craftsmanship, as well as historical links to the Daco-Roman wars of the early 2nd century AD.
