Archaeologists find potential site of Nefertiti’s tomb near Tutankhamun

Archaeologists from the National Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics in Egypt have identified potential evidence of a hidden funerary chamber near the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62). The findings, published in ‘Occasional Papers of the Amarna Royal Tombs Project’, suggest the existence of a secret complex that may house the sarcophagus of Queen Nefertiti.

Using ground-penetrating radar and gravitational techniques to analyze wall structures, researchers identified a debris-filled space that may have been overlooked in previous expeditions. Structural engineer Georges Ballard noted the possibility of a secret room containing various objects. The study also revealed a two-meter-wide corridor extending from Tutankhamun’s tomb and two distinct areas of varying density, pointing toward a potential network of passages and chambers.
