Archangel Michael Miracle at Chonae commemorated

September 6 marks the commemoration of the Miracle of Archangel Michael at Chonae. According to religious tradition, a healing spring appeared in Phrygia through the power of the Archangel, leading to the construction of a temple.

Years later, an ascetic named Archippos served at the temple. When local idolaters attempted to destroy the sanctuary and the spring, they were met with divine intervention. After failed attempts to divert rivers to drown the temple and Archippos, the Archangel reportedly intervened, causing the rivers to merge and settle into the ground. This event is said to have given the location its name, Chonae.
