Archbishop Apostolos to be enthroned in Canada

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada is holding the enthronement ceremony for its new leader, Archbishop Apostolos (Evangelos Koufalakis), on Saturday, September 19. The ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Toronto.

Archbishop Apostolos, formerly the Metropolitan of New Jersey, was unanimously elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 22 following the departure of Archbishop Sotirios. His central message to the clergy and community has focused on unity, encapsulated by the phrase ‘Ἴνα πάντες ἓν ὦσι’.

The event will be attended by clergy, hierarchs, and representatives of the Greek state and the diaspora. Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain will represent Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Additionally, Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis is expected to attend to represent the Greek government.
