Archdiocese of Asunción promotes organ donation awareness

The Archdiocese of Asunción is calling on citizens to reflect on the importance of voluntary organ and tissue donation. This appeal coincides with the National Organ and Tissue Donor Day on September 12 and the anniversary of the “Ley Anita” (Law No. 6170/2018), which was enacted following the death of six-year-old Ana Laura Almirón Riquelme.

Cardinal Adalberto Martínez Flores encouraged Paraguayans to view donation as an act of solidarity and love. He highlighted the legacy of Anita, who passed away in 2013 while waiting for a heart transplant. Although she did not receive the organ, her struggle led to significant legislative changes and increased national awareness regarding the transplant waiting lists managed by the National Institute of Ablation and Transplantation (INAT).
