Archdiocese of Olomouc cancels LGBTQ+ pilgrimage
The Archdiocese of Olomouc in the Czech Republic has canceled its second annual LGBTQ+ pilgrimage, which was scheduled for September 19, 2026. Officials stated the decision was made because a wave of negative and hateful reactions online made it impossible to guarantee the safety of the participants.
Archdiocese spokesperson Jiří Gračka clarified that the cancellation is not a concession to pressure, but an effort to avoid a dangerous situation. Despite the cancellation of the public event, the archdiocese intends to continue its pastoral work through regular, smaller-scale meetings for individuals with minority sexual orientations.
Archbishop Josef Nuzík previously emphasized that pastoral care for these believers does not aim to change Church doctrine, but rather to embody the Gospel message of accepting every person. The planned event was set to include talks, testimonies from parents, and workshops.
