Olomouc Archdiocese LGBTQ+ pilgrimage cancellation
Overview
The Archdiocese of Olomouc in the Czech Republic has canceled its second annual pilgrimage for LGBTQ+ believers, which was originally scheduled for September 19, 2026.
Officials cited a wave of negative and hateful online reactions as the reason for the cancellation, stating that these reactions made it impossible to guarantee a safe environment for participants. Archdiocese spokesperson Jiří Gračka clarified that the decision was an effort to avoid a “dangerous situation” rather than a concession to external pressure.
Despite the cancellation of the public event, the archdiocese intends to maintain its pastoral work through smaller-scale meetings and spiritual discussions. Archbishop Josef Nuzík has previously emphasized that such outreach aims to embody the Gospel message of acceptance without seeking to change Church doctrine.
