Archdiocese of Poznań sues family over Maltańskie Estate land dispute

The Archdiocese of Poznań has filed a lawsuit against Patrycja Bartoszewska, her husband, and their 14-year-old daughter, seeking over 17,000 PLN for the unauthorized use of a plot in the Maltańskie Estate in Poznań. The family has filed an objection to a payment order, contesting both the validity and the amount of the claim.

The dispute is part of a larger conflict involving approximately 160 legal cases regarding properties in the Maltańskie Estate. The Archdiocese recently purchased the land from a parish and subsequently sold it to developer JHM Development for 421 million PLN to facilitate the construction of apartment blocks.

The Archdiocese has increased monthly charges for the land from 58.56 PLN to 2,946 PLN, citing market rates based on an expert appraisal. While the Archdiocese's legal representative stated that the inclusion of a minor in the lawsuit was due to unknown residency details and does not make her a debtor, legal counsel for the residents argues the move is intended to increase pressure on the family.
