Archer Aviation plans electric air taxi network for 2028 Olympics

Archer Aviation is developing an electric air taxi network in Southern California to mitigate traffic congestion ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. The company plans to utilize its all-electric Midnight aircraft, which can carry four passengers and one pilot at speeds of up to 241.4 kilometers per hour. The aircraft is designed to be quieter than conventional helicopters and produces zero operating emissions.

In partnership with the entertainment conglomerate AEG, Archer Aviation aims to establish a vertiport at the L.A. Live complex in downtown Los Angeles. This infrastructure is intended to provide rapid transit for travelers, such as reducing a one-hour car trip from Hawthorne Airport to Orange County to just 12 minutes.

Additionally, Santa Monica has been identified as a potential destination within the network, though no formal agreement has been finalized with the city. The initiative seeks to provide an efficient alternative for commuters and visitors traveling to major venues like SoFi Stadium during the high-traffic period of the Olympic Games.
